Step 1

Draw two oval shapes, with a smaller one inside the larger one, sitting towards the top of the large oval shape. The smaller oval should be more like a rounded triangle type shape. These are our body and head guide shapes.

Step 2

Now let’s add some lines for the wings and head. Draw two lines out from the body, in line with the head. These lines should curve up, and then down to the tip of the wing. Then draw three lines to form the head shape.

Now the bat takes shape. Using the large oval guide shape, draw the body line that meets at a point at the bottom of the oval guide shape. Then draw in lines like in the image above for the wing membranes. Finally draw in the ear shapes.

Step 4

It’s time to draw in the bottom of the wings. Join up all the tips of the wings lines with an arc in between each line, then back to the lower body. Then draw in the eyes and mouth, finally adding a curved line below the head to show the upper body.

Step 5

Draw in the legs, starting at either side of the body. Now draw in lines for inside the ears, and the nose which sits between the eyes.

Now let’s draw the back fin, this is a super-easy piece to draw. This back fin sits halfway between the tail and the front fin. Draw an arc from the body down at 45 degrees stopping about the same distance as the bottom of the tail. Now draw a curved line back up to the bottom. See image on the left.

And we’re done! Go ahead and have more fun by adding larger teeth, colour in his wings, or even add a little blood around his mouth. Creepy!
